At Greystanes Family Medical Practice, preventative healthcare is a key focus of our practice. We are committed to ongoing quality improvement activities aimed at enhancing patient care and monitoring the effectiveness of these initiatives over time.
Examples of these activities include ensuring patients in high-risk groups remain up to date with recommended vaccinations, and supporting proactive bone health management through regular bone density screening for eligible patients.
We hope to use this page to periodically update our most recent QI activities, and outcomes over the last few years.
Update –June 2026 (Osteoporosis Screening)
Osteoporosis is a common and largely preventable condition that predominantly affects older adults. It causes bones to become weaker and more fragile, increasing the risk of fractures, particularly following a fall.
To improve access to screening for our local community, we engaged the mobile Bone Bus service annually from 2024, bringing bone density testing directly to our patients. This initiative was designed to make screening more accessible, especially for older patients who may face barriers to travelling to external imaging services.
This graph below demonstrates the number of patients who are eligible and have had up to date Bone Density scans over the last 5 years. As shown in the graph, this initiative has been well received by our patients, resulting in a steady increase in bone density screening rates over recent years.
